Brozava, Croatia July 30–August 1

So today we checked out of the new hostel, with our still moist laundry, and boarded the catamaran to the island of Dugi Otak, which  translates to long island, and to the town of Brozava.  We do not have reservations, since everyone who suggested we go to Brozava was sure that when we went to the visitor’s center, there would be no problem.

The trip was very nice.  The islands off of Croatia are nice and plentiful.

One stop before our island.  The little towns are really cute.         a 7 30 (14) (1024x747)

When we arrived at Brozava, we waited for about one hour at the visitor’s center.  She found us an apartment.  The owner came to show us the property.  So we decided to take the place, but he got call from his wife who said she had someone who would rent it for a longer time, so he bailed on us.  Now we were sent to a guy who had a room to rent.  It was all that was left in the whole town, except for the local hotel, which charged almost $ 200 per night.  So we had to take it.  It was hot and small and very noisy.

By the way…. the hotel here is the Maxim….so that is where my Dad’s favorite hotel went to when they closed in Las Vegas.

People come to Brozava to swim in the Adriatic Sea.  This is what the beaches are like….

a 7 30 (19) (1024x669)   Yes,  they consider these boulders to be a beach.  There are several “beaches” around the town, and no, we did not go swimming here.

On the other side of the island there is a sand beach, we are told, and so we go there to swim.  We took this “train” there.  It was a nice ride, with lovely views.

We spent an hour on the “sand” beach             a 7 31 (19) (1024x741)   Where is the sand you ask?

Look a the feet of the man standing by the yellow plastic…yes there is sand there.

a 7 31 (22) (1024x768)  So we went swimming.  The yellow balls are called “hamster balls” in the US and are for trying to stand up and walk in.  It is very difficult, but fun to watch.

There are only 3 restaurants in this town and since we do not have an apartment to cook in, we have eaten enough calamari for a while

After a nice walk in the woods, we decided we were done with Brozava and would leave for Pula tomorrow.
