St Petersburg, Russia Part 2

The Hermitage:

This is the palace portion, just one of the 5 buildings that house works of art.  Not just pictures, but all we looked at where paintings.

Just a few pictures of the grandeur of the place.

We were pleasantly surprised that we were allowed to take pictures.  Here are some of what we saw.

I thought this general was strange looking.  I hope his style doesn’t come back….

Just some stuff I liked.

Some of you might even recognize them.

Today, the 6th of June, we had planned to meet another Russian man, Mikhail, but we never found him.  I don’t know if he emailed to say he couldn’t  come, but we haven’t had internet and didn’t receive it, or somehow he couldn’t get into the port, or what happened.  We walked about 3 miles trying to find him.  I will update you when and if we find out what happened.  It might be all for the best, since both of us are very tired after walking for 9 hours yesterday and I got up 4 times last night to watch the sky.  The sun had not yet set at 11pm.  By 1am there was still a beautiful sunset near the horizon.  Same at 2am and 3am.  By 4:30 the entire sky was lit for morning.  This as close to white nights as we will get.  It’s a good thing or I would never get any sleep.

Tomorrow on to Helskinki, Sweden.

  2. Gave up trying to get "notified" when you post to your blog... So I'll just check in periodically. Looks like you're having a fine time. One of these pictures makes me want to grab a Magic Marker and draw moustaches on faces!
