Buchschlag, Germany August 30

One of the things Duane has been looking forward to is trying to find the house where he and his family lived for a couple of years when he was 2 years old.  It was in Buchschlag, Germany south of Frankfurt.  Kai had found the town, but finding the house seemed impossible since Eileen only had one very very old picture of part of the house.

So off we went on a wild goose chase, but with high hopes.

The trip there passed some lovely little towns and scenery.

When we got to Buchschlag we started cruising around streets.  No one found anything familiar.  Kai stopped and asked the only person we had seen on the street if she recognized the house.  SHE DID !!!!

She directed us right to it.  It turned out to be on half of a duplex house, the only one in the area.  While taking pictures of the house, the owner came up scolding for taking pictures of private property.  When Kai explained why we were there, she calmed down.  She asked that we don’t post any pictures of the house, we don’t know why, but we will respect her wishes.  It was so wonderful to just find it.

She showed us around the gardens and then asked Eileen and Duane in to see if they recognized anything inside the house.  Well it has been some years since they saw it and they were pretty young then, but some things they did remember, like a small stairway to the attic or the fireplace in the living room.

I think these pictures speak for themselves

Who would have ever guessed at this outcome…..maybe Eileen.

And yes, we rode on the autobahn……………….at up to 200 kph (200 X 6.2 mph = 124 mph)  Luckily, everyone else was doing that speed, too.
