Nurnberg, Germany August 28

We all know of the trials held in Nurnberg after WW II.  The parts of the city that we visited had nothing to do with that part of its history, but much older history.

We were on a tour that the boat provided, so some of the pictures will have reflections from the bus windows.

Here is Duane turning the golden ring three times around to ensure his wish will come true.a 8 28 (93) (1024x768)   The ring has no sign of beginning or end and was made by a goldsmith who was not permitted to marry a nobleman’s daughter, so he made this ring to show how great a goldsmith he was and then he left town.  Why this makes the ring a wishing ring, is up to you to figure out.

This was the last stop on our Danube river cruise.  We had learned a lot about where we went and also about the differences between river cruising and ocean cruising.  Of course, river cruising is smoother.  The scenery is closer.  You go much slower.  The food and the room are about the same, but the dining room service is not as good.  Since you are only on board for one week the entertainment is just ok.  You do get to know most of the people on board, since there are only about 120 passengers.

We will be taking a cruise back to the US on Sept 10, so we will be able to make a better comparison.  The cruise back is on a ship with 3,500 passengers.  We have never been on a ship that big so we have no idea what it will be like.  We have never been on such a new ship, either.
